How is a lesson structured?
Each lesson is structured in the following way: welcome, circle stretch, technique, jumps, traveling steps, stations, prop time (free dance for toddlers OR additional acro skill work and exploration for preschoolers), and goodbye.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age groups are included?
The lesson plans in this curriculum are divided into ages 1.5 to 3 (to be taught with a caregiver present) and 3 to 5 years old. The 3 to 5 year old age group can be easily adapted to a beginner 5 to 7 year old group too.
What if I’m not an experienced acro dance teacher?
The beauty of this curriculum is you don’t need to be experienced in acro to teach it successfully! We’ve had plenty of dance teachers invest in this curriculum to start teaching their acro dance classes. It is helpful to have some dance teaching knowledge and experience before using this curriculum, but you do not need an acro-specific background or training.
Will I need to invest in a ton of props? What props do I need?

We’ve laid out our curriculum to be able to work with a minimal number of props as you grow your program. If you already use props in your tot and preschool ballet and creative dance classes, you can reuse many of them in this curriculum too. But they certainly aren’t required! If you don’t have a balance beam, for example, you can tape a line on the floor for your students. If you don’t have spot markers, your students can still hop across the floor. If you don’t have scarves or ribbon streamers, your students can still move freely and beautifully in a free dance using only their imaginations!
The one prop that is required for this curriculum is a fold-out mat. You can usually find these at a good price on Amazon. (Just be sure you check the dimensions when ordering online!) We’ve designed this curriculum so that this is really the only acro-specific prop you have to have and can use it in different ways. We do include other suggestions in the curriculum that you can purchase as you continue to teach and grow your acro dance program.
Is this a one-time fee? How long do I have access?
Yes! This is a one-time fee! And you’ll have access to the curriculum digitally and the video trainings it comes with for life!
What if I AM an experienced acro dance teacher?
If you already have solid acro dance teaching experience, you can use this curriculum to keep your classes fresh, new, and joyful! Plug the activities you like from our lesson plans into your existing lesson plans. You might already know a lot of what's included in the teaching videos, but they can serve as a great review of how to teach various skills and technique in a correct, developmentally appropriate way.
